PSG Overcome Barcelona in Champions League Goal Fest
(MENAFN) Paris Saint-Germain claimed a thrilling 4-2 victory over Barcelona on Tuesday after scoring twice in the closing stages, recovering from Lamine Yamal's late equalizer in a dramatic UEFA Champions League Matchday Three clash at the Parc des Princes.
The French champions made an aggressive start, with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia hitting the woodwork in the second minute. Goalkeeper Joan Garcia then kept Barcelona in the contest by stopping efforts from Ousmane Dembele and Desire Doue.
PSG suffered an early blow in the 20th minute when Dembele had to leave the field with a suspected hamstring injury. Former Barcelona attacker Ferran Torres came on to replace him as the hosts continued searching for an opening goal.
Garcia remained busy throughout the first half, producing several important interventions. One of his standout moments came in the 29th minute, when he made consecutive saves against Torres and Fabian Ruiz to prevent PSG from taking the lead.
The home side eventually broke through in the 38th minute. Joao Neves intercepted a pass from Yamal in midfield, allowing the ball to reach Doue. The forward moved inside from the edge of the penalty area before unleashing a powerful right-footed shot into the bottom-left corner.
Barcelona attempted to respond quickly, with Pedri setting up Fermin Lopez for a promising opportunity. However, PSG goalkeeper Matvei Safonov denied Lopez, and Willian Pacho cleared the loose ball before the visitors could capitalize.
PSG carried their one-goal advantage into halftime and resumed the second period on the attack. Garcia once again came to Barcelona's rescue in the 52nd minute, denying Achraf Hakimi during a one-on-one opportunity.
The Catalan side found their equalizer three minutes later. Xavi Espart combined with Lopez before breaking into the penalty area and sending a low finish beyond Safonov to bring the score to 1-1.
PSG restored their lead in the 72nd minute through Lucas Hernandez. The defender rose above the Barcelona defense to meet Doue's corner and direct a powerful header into the top-right corner. The goal came shortly after Torres had struck the post at the other end.
Barcelona refused to surrender and drew level again in the 79th minute. Yamal took advantage of a poorly directed headed clearance by Warren Zaire-Emery, who had entered the match just one minute earlier. The young Spanish forward advanced from the right into the penalty area before finishing from a narrow angle to make it 2-2.
The visitors' celebrations were short-lived, however, as PSG moved ahead again just two minutes later. Vitinha controlled a loose ball on his chest outside the penalty area and struck a right-footed half-volley that found the bottom-right corner.
Fabian Ruiz put the result beyond doubt in the 86th minute, meeting Hakimi's low delivery at the far post and completing PSG's fourth goal of the night.
The result extended PSG's flawless start to the Champions League campaign, giving the French club three victories from three matches. Barcelona, meanwhile, suffered their first defeat across all competitions this season after an entertaining encounter featuring six goals and several dramatic momentum shifts.
