Mystery Drones Spotted Over Port, Strategic Sites In The Netherlands

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) Ukrinform reports this, citing NL Times.

“Over the past week, unidentified drones have been spotted repeatedly near the port of Eemshaven and at several other locations in the eastern part of Groningen province. Incidents have been reported in Meeden, Scheemda, and Zuidbroek,” the report said.

Police are investigating the incidents. Western intelligence agencies suspect that Russia may be using drones to gather intelligence on critical infrastructure across Europe, although no concrete evidence has emerged to support this suspicion.

According to an Eemshaven port employee, the first drones were spotted as early as October 3. Since then, they have been seen repeatedly at night and in the early morning.

In the port area, flights over or near critical facilities require special authorization. No such permits had been issued. Police are investigating the reports.

Law enforcement officials confirmed that they were also looking into reports of drones in other parts of the province.

Critical infrastructure is located in all the areas where the drones were spotted.

Unidentified drones have previously been reported near strategic sites in the Netherlands. In July, they were spotted near the Borssele nuclear power plant; in January, over the country's largest gas distribution facility near Ommen; and in November last year, in the port area of Terneuzen.

As reported, the Netherlands is seeking to step up efforts to combat Russia's shadow fleet.
