Ukrainian Expedition Completes Search In Poland's Lasków, Remains Of More Than 40 People Found

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) The Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance reported this on Facebook, according to Ukrinform.

“The investigations uncovered both mass and individual graves. Preliminary estimates indicate that the remains of more than 40 people, including women, children and men, were found in the area surveyed,” the statement said.

The Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance plans to conduct further exhumation work in Lasków in spring 2027 to establish the age and sex of the deceased and determine the causes of death.

“On the final day of the search, exploratory pits were dug and one of the mass graves was partially uncovered, revealing the remains of eight people. At the end of the expedition, participants lit memorial lamps in honor of the innocent Ukrainians who were killed,” the institute added.

The search investigations took place from October 2 to 16 at the request of the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance. The work was carried out by the municipal enterprise Dolia, which received the relevant authorization from the Polish side on August 31.

Sviatoslav Sheremeta, Head of the Dolia municipal enterprise, noted that most of the graves were located 40–70 centimeters below the ground surface.

The Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance reported that“according to various historical sources, more than 300 people were killed during the mass murder of Ukrainians in Lasków on March 10, 1944.” Research by Ukrainian and Polish historians and experts has established the identities of 327 Lasków residents who died in 1944. However, some historians estimate the death toll to have been higher, at around 350.

As reported by Ukrinform, a Ukrainian expedition in the Polish village of Lasków previously uncovered around 30 sets of human remains belonging to people killed in March 1944.
