Double Gold Glory For Sri Lanka At Inaugural Asian Gym For Life Challenge 2026

Date:

(MENAFN- Colombo Gazette) Sri Lanka's National Mixed Team and National Girls' Team won Gold Awards at the inaugural Asian Gym for Life Challenge in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, according to the supplied announcement.

The event, held from 15 to 18 October 2026, brought together 30 teams from eight countries for group performances assessed on creativity, teamwork and performance quality.

Sri Lanka fielded 89 gymnasts, with 44 competing in the Mixed Team and 45 in the Girls' Team. Both teams received Gold Awards for their routines, the announcement said.

The competition was organised under the auspices of the Asian Gymnastics Union in collaboration with the Indonesia Gymnastics Federation. It formed part of Gymnastics for All, an approach that promotes participation, inclusivity and creativity through group gymnastics.

The programme encouraged gymnasts to combine movement, coordination and presentation, with an emphasis on cooperation and the overall quality of each group's performance.

The Mixed Team's performance was recognised for its creativity, quality and expression of the spirit of Gymnastics for All, according to the announcement. The Girls' Team also earned a Gold Award.

The results gave both Sri Lankan groups recognition at the first edition of the Asian event, where they performed alongside teams representing seven other countries.

The announcement credited the athletes, coaches and officials involved in preparing the contingent for the international challenge.

It described the outcome as encouragement for developing gymnastics in Sri Lanka through opportunities for young athletes to gain international experience and participate in group performances.

Sri Lanka's participation highlighted the role of team preparation, discipline and coordination in bringing large groups of gymnasts together for an overseas event.

The announcement did not provide scores, the complete results or a breakdown of awards presented to other participating teams. Further details from the organisers would help establish the award structure and place the two Sri Lankan results in context.
