Zelenskyy Discusses Air Defense Supplies, Starlink Restoration with Rubio
(MENAFN) Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Tuesday that he spoke with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio about strengthening Ukraine’s air defenses, improving warnings of ballistic missile attacks and restoring Starlink and Starshield services.
Zelenskyy described the phone call as "a substantive conversation" in a statement shared on Telegram, outlining three main issues addressed during the discussion.
"The first issue was interceptors against ballistic missiles, which are needed to protect lives. The second was early warning of Russian ballistic missile attacks, which is vital. The third was the situation surrounding Starlink/Starshield, which needs to be restored," he said.
The Ukrainian president emphasized the importance of securing missile interceptors to protect civilians and improving early-warning capabilities to help Ukraine prepare for incoming Russian ballistic missile attacks.
The discussion also covered the status of Starlink and Starshield services, which Zelenskyy said needed to be restored. Both systems are associated with satellite-based communications and connectivity, making their availability an important issue for Ukraine.
Zelenskyy thanked Rubio for his willingness to assist and for what he described as a clear position on the matters discussed.
The call took place as diplomatic efforts continue to seek an end to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. The two officials agreed to hold another conversation soon to exchange updates, Zelenskyy said
