AI-Generated Sexual Deepfakes Target Belgium’s Royal Family, Prominent Women
(MENAFN) Belgium's Queen Mathilde, Crown Princess Elisabeth and several other high-profile women have been targeted by sexually explicit images created using artificial intelligence, highlighting growing concerns over the circulation of non-consensual deepfake pornography.
The fabricated images, which falsely portray the women as naked, have reportedly appeared on social media platforms in recent days, according to reports.
Those affected allegedly include relatives of politicians and government officials, alongside prominent female political figures. An investigation by Belgian media identified Flemish Vice-Minister-President Melissa Depraetere and former Defense Minister Ludivine Dedonder among the individuals targeted.
"As disgusting as it is, very little surprises me anymore," Depraetere said, emphasizing the need to recognize that producing and distributing such material was unacceptable and could have devastating consequences for those targeted.
Dedonder, meanwhile, announced plans to pursue legal action over the manipulated images.
Belgium's Royal Palace also confirmed that steps had been taken to remove online content falsely depicting Queen Mathilde and Crown Princess Elisabeth.
The incident has renewed scrutiny of AI-generated and digitally altered material that portrays real individuals as naked or engaging in sexual acts without their permission, raising concerns about personal privacy, reputational damage and the potential harm caused by the misuse of emerging technologies.
