Shih Tzu Wins Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade Best Costume
This year's parade, organized by the nonprofit New York Dog Parade, was the second iteration since longtime organizer Joseph Borduin stepped down in 2024. The pet food brand Kismet, co-founded by John Legend and Chrissy Teigen, sponsored the event. Organizers also emphasized shelter adoptions, bringing 250 dogs seeking homes to the parade.
Competition for the best costume was intense, with notable entries including a pug emerging from a charcuterie board's wheel of cheese, a Bad Bunny-themed float, a Yayoi Kusama pumpkin, a cyclosporiasis parasite, and a group of Pomeranians in Knicks apparel. One dog,“Pup Leo,” greeted fans from a custom Popemobile. Spectators watched from barricades, lampposts, CitiBike seats, and local fire escapes.
