Azerbaijan Reduces Greenhouse Gas Emissions

Date:

(MENAFN- Trend News Agency) BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 20. Azerbaijan reduced its greenhouse gas emissions in 2025 compared with the previous year.

According to the 2026 report prepared by the European Commission's Emissions Database for Global Atmospheric Research (EDGAR), the country's total emissions fell from 58.52 million tons in 2024 to 57.72 million tons of CO2 equivalent in 2025. This represents a decrease of 0.8 million tons, or approximately 1.4%.

The report puts Azerbaijan's share of global greenhouse gas emissions at 0.11%, down from the 2024 level. This was recorded against the backdrop of a 0.7% increase in global emissions in 2025, bringing the total to 54.15 billion tons.

According to the 2026 EDGAR report, total greenhouse gas emissions in regional countries in 2025 were distributed as follows:

- Russia: 2.57 billion tons - 4.75% of global emissions;
- Iran: 1.12 billion tons - 2.07%;
- Türkiye: 610.78 million tons - 1.13%;
- Azerbaijan: 57.72 million tons - 0.11%.

According to the report, China was the world's largest source of greenhouse gas emissions in 2025, accounting for 15.98 billion tons of CO2 equivalent, or 29.51% of the global total.

U.S. emissions amounted to 6.02 billion tons, representing 11.11% of the global total, while India accounted for 4.51 billion tons, or 8.33%.

Thus, Azerbaijan's reduction in emissions in 2025, despite the rise in global figures, serves as further evidence of the country's commitment to its voluntarily undertaken environmental obligations.
