Maurizio Cattelan Worked As Postman, Sperm Donor

Date:

(MENAFN- USA Art News) Renowned Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan recently offered a glimpse into his early life and perspective during an interview with The Guardian, published ahead of a new exhibition at the Neue Nationalgalerie in Berlin.

Cattelan, widely recognized for his provocative 2019 work“Comedian,” which featured a banana taped to a wall, emphasized the serious intent behind his art.“My work has always been serious. The problem is people often stop at the joke,” he stated.

The artist also reflected on his future, revealing a detached view on legacy.“I don't have a foundation. I don't have a studio, never had. I also don't have a family. A legacy would be like being so conscious about yourself that you have these constructions,” he philosophically noted.

During his early years in Berlin, Cattelan undertook several jobs to support himself. The Guardian reported that he worked as a postman, a mortuary attendant, and a sperm donor, roles that encompass themes of both life and death.
