DRIFT Unveils“Aeolus” Sculpture, Announces Amsterdam Museum
“Aeolus” is named after the ancient Greek deity of the wind. It features numerous glass rods, each containing tiny lights that activate in response to visitors' movements. Lonneke Gordijn and Ralph Nauta, the founders of DRIFT, stated:“Like wind itself, the work only fully exists through interaction. It is both still and in motion, fixed yet constantly changing.” The studio chose light and glass to symbolize ephemerality and transitions, reflecting how glass can appear spectral and light can be as intangible as wind.
The installation will remain on view through October 25. Additionally, DRIFT has announced plans for a new institution, the DRIFT Museum. This 8,000-square-meter space is slated to open in early 2027 within the Van Gendt Hallen in Amsterdam.
