Türkiye Backs Iraqi Premier’s Vision for Deeper Bilateral Relations
(MENAFN) Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan praised Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi’s "strong vision" for expanding cooperation between Baghdad and Ankara following their meeting in the Iraqi capital on Saturday.
"Mr. al-Zaidi has a very strong vision for advancing relations with Türkiye. We are also seeing the positive and constructive impact of this vision in Iraq's policies," Fidan told reporters.
The discussions took place on the sidelines of the 52nd session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
Fidan said al-Zaidi had shown a clear determination to strengthen ties with Türkiye while pursuing practical measures to tackle the challenges facing Iraq.
The talks with Iraqi officials addressed several areas of shared interest, including energy, transport links, the Development Road Project, security and defense cooperation, counterterrorism efforts and developments in Sinjar.
Fidan reiterated Ankara’s backing for the Iraqi government’s constructive approach, adding that both countries aimed to elevate their relationship to an unprecedented level.
He also said Türkiye was prepared to help address difficulties rooted in past events that had particularly affected Iraqi society.
