Türkiye Backs New Iraqi Cabinet, Eyes Energy, Water, Security Ties
(MENAFN) Ankara has thrown its support behind Iraq’s newly approved Cabinet lineup, signaling a push to deepen cooperation with Baghdad on energy, water, infrastructure and security.
The Turkish Foreign Ministry announced Friday that it welcomed the appointments, which came after lawmakers in the Iraqi Council of Representatives held a confidence vote on 15 October.
“We welcome the new appointments to the Iraqi Cabinet following the vote of confidence held on 15 October in the Iraqi Council of Representatives, and extend our best wishes for success to the Iraqi Government under the leadership of Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
Ankara expects the development to speed up two-way cooperation, the ministry said, with the Development Road Project singled out alongside energy, water, infrastructure and security.
The ministry also highlighted the selection of Mehmet Seman Agaoglu, who serves as governor of Kirkuk and chairman of the Iraqi Turkmen Front, as minister of state in the new Cabinet.
“We consider the appointment ... as a step in the right direction towards political stability, social cohesion, and the fair representation of the Turkmen community,” the statement said.
“Türkiye takes this opportunity to reaffirm its commitment to deepening cooperation with Iraq across all fields.”
