Manarat To Embed AI, Interconnected Machine Networks Across Smart Factories
Dr Abdulla Hamad al-Qahtani, senior manager of Manufacturing Hub at QDB, explained to Gulf Times that the complex is planned to feature 16 interconnected industrial units equipped with Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) technologies.
He said the operational setup relies on Internet of Things (IoT) sensors to link machinery directly to a central AI command centre, enabling predictive maintenance, operational risk mitigation, and real-time inventory management. The initiative supports the goals of the Third National Development Strategy (NDS3) by advancing industrial technology adoption across Qatar, he emphasised.
“One of the main purposes of Manarat is to elaborate on the adoption of Industry 4.0. Those sensors will capture data and transfer them to a central command enabled with AI to give preventive maintenance and warnings if there is a reduction in raw materials. The factories will be interconnected to enable the activation of the value chain among all facilities,” Dr al-Qahtani explained.
Rather than functioning solely as ready-built factory real estate, Manarat provides detailed diagnostic assessments, lean manufacturing consultancy, and digital transformation readiness evaluations for incubated firms, Dr al-Qahtani noted.
He said the ecosystem facilitates cross-factory supply chain synergies, allowing tenant facilities to share specialised capabilities such as additive manufacturing and 3D printing internally.
The digital framework aims to expand Qatar's deep-tech manufacturing pipeline across target sectors, including medical devices, pharmaceuticals, robotics, and advanced chemicals, he said.
Dr al-Qahtani stated that international firms establishing operations within the hub can retain up to 100% foreign ownership while benefiting from QDB advisory services, financing solutions, and export insurance.
“Targeted entities are advanced-manufacturing companies with clearly defined operational plans and integrated Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) technologies,” Dr al-Qahtani noted.
He said applications for tenancy are currently open through QDB's electronic portal. The selection procedure consists of two stages, starting with an initial eligibility screening followed by a comprehensive feasibility study and detailed business plan submission.
Located in the SME Industrial Area, the facilities are targeted for completion by the end of this year, providing two layout configurations ranging from 695 to 1,210sq m equipped with power capacities up to 500kW.
“We are targeting completion of the facility by the end of this year,” Dr al-Qahtani said.
