Poland Probes Alleged Assassination Plot Targeting Senior Officials
(MENAFN) Polish authorities have launched an investigation after police received a report about a possible assassination attempt targeting Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz, according to the Interior Ministry.
Interior Minister Marcin Kierwinski and Tomasz Siemoniak, the minister responsible for intelligence services, ordered authorities to begin taking action in response to the reported threat, Interior Ministry spokesperson Karolina Galecka said.
The announcement came as representatives of Poland’s security services were expected to convene for an emergency meeting to assess the situation and determine the appropriate next steps.
Government spokesman Adam Szlapka stressed the seriousness of the case, confirming that Tusk had been informed about the potential threat on Sunday morning.
"The matter is serious," Szlapka said, according to reports.
He also confirmed that the prime minister remained in Warsaw and continued carrying out his official responsibilities despite the reported security concern.
Polish authorities have not yet disclosed further details about the alleged plot, including its potential source or the circumstances surrounding the reported threat. Officials said additional information could be released after the security services’ meeting.
“The security services are, of course, working on the matter, and all information that can be disclosed at this stage will be provided immediately after the meeting,” Szlapka further said.
The investigation is ongoing as security agencies work to establish the credibility of the report and determine whether any specific preparations for an attack took place.
