Türkiye, Czechia Eye Recycling Deals at Istanbul Forum

(MENAFN) Turkish and Czech officials, executives and industry leaders met in Istanbul at the Türkiye-Czechia Sustainable Recycling Forum, aiming to turn talks on recycling and waste management into working partnerships.

The Czech Consulate General in Istanbul, the Our World Foundation and the Climate and Sustainability Sciences Research Foundation (ISBAV) co-hosted the event at the Social Facilities Conference Hall on Istanbul Technical University's Macka Campus.

Who attended
Istanbul Deputy Governor Cengiz Karabulut and Czech Consul General Olga Hajflerova were among the participants. Also present were Barbaros Buyuksagnak, head of foreign relations at the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, and Aysen Erdincler, the municipality's head of environmental protection and control.

Delegates from Türkiye's Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Ministry and the Turkish Environment Agency also took part. Company representatives, industry bodies and civil society groups working in recycling, plastics, waste management and environmental technologies joined public institutions and local authorities from both countries.

Sessions covered waste management, recycling technologies, investment opportunities and possible commercial and technological tie-ups between Turkish and Czech firms.

From talk to contracts
Kahraman Haliscelik, president of the Our World Foundation, gave the first opening address. He said the forum's central goal was to go beyond exchanging views and open the way to concrete cooperation, and that new partnerships in recycling and waste management could deepen ties between the two countries.

"Our aim is to turn dialogue into cooperation, and cooperation into concrete projects and commercial partnerships," he said.

Haliscelik argued that recycling and waste management can no longer be treated purely as environmental matters. He described them as increasingly strategic, with implications for technology, investment, competitiveness and economic opportunity.

He said close cooperation among public bodies, local authorities and the private sector would be key to delivering sustainable solutions, and voiced hope that contacts made at the forum would lead to new projects and lasting partnerships. He thanked Hajflerova, ISBAV, TUDAM and the Turkish and Czech institutions and companies that supported the program.

"Complementary" strengths
Speaking next, Hajflerova said uniting public and private sector figures from both countries was vital for building new business links. She called the forum a platform for sharing knowledge and experience and for forging long-term partnerships between Turkish and Czech institutions and companies.

The two countries, she said, have considerable potential to complement each other in the field, and gathering diverse stakeholders would enrich the exchange of experience. Ties in sustainability, recycling and waste management could also open fresh avenues for bilateral economic and commercial relations, she added.
