White House Blocks Politico From Air Force One Press Pool

(MENAFN) The White House on Monday prevented Politico from joining the press pool traveling aboard Air Force One, in the latest development in the Trump administration’s dispute with several media organizations.

A spokesperson for the outlet confirmed that Politico had been excluded from the group of reporters assigned to accompany President Donald Trump on trips outside Washington.

Trump is scheduled to travel Monday afternoon to Nebraska for a campaign event.

The administration’s decision follows Trump’s announcement on Sept. 18 that Politico, CNN and MS NOW would be barred from the White House, after he accused the outlets of producing “fake news.”

Three days later, the three media organizations filed a lawsuit arguing that the restrictions violated the First and Fifth Amendments of the US Constitution, which address press freedoms and due process, among other protections.

Federal Judge Timothy J. Kelly subsequently issued a temporary restraining order directing the administration to restore the journalists’ White House press credentials.

The temporary order is set to expire Thursday, while the three outlets have asked the judge to extend it until the lawsuit is resolved.
