Fire Breaks Out Aboard French Nuclear Aircraft Carrier
(MENAFN) A fire broke out Monday aboard France’s nuclear-powered aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle while the vessel was at the Toulon naval base, according to reports.
The French Navy said the blaze started in the morning and was brought under control several hours later.
"There were no injuries and no impact was observed on the vessel’s nuclear facilities,” it said.
Initial findings indicated that the fire was believed "to have been caused by cutting work with a blowtorch."
The Navy said an investigation into the incident remained underway.
The Charles de Gaulle has been docked in the Toulon roadstead since late August for a scheduled “technical stop” and is expected to remain there until early December.
