Sudanese Army Reports Another Drone Interception in Kordofan
(MENAFN) The Sudanese army said Monday that its air defenses intercepted an FH-95 strategic drone in West Kordofan, marking the sixth drone of the same model it says has been brought down across the Kordofan region in less than a month.
In a brief statement, the army said the “hostile drone” was shot down northwest of Al-Khuway in West Kordofan during the morning.
According to reports based on previous military announcements, the army had already reported the destruction of five other FH-95 drones in North Kordofan, with the most recent incident occurring on Sept. 27.
The FH-95 is a Chinese-manufactured unmanned aircraft used for reconnaissance, surveillance and electronic warfare operations. The drone is capable of remaining airborne for more than 12 hours.
Sudanese authorities have repeatedly accused the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of conducting drone strikes against civilian infrastructure. The RSF generally does not respond to such allegations and maintains that its operations are aimed at protecting civilians.
Fighting between the Sudanese army and the RSF has continued since April 2023, following disputes over the proposed integration of the paramilitary force into the regular military. The conflict has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths and forced around 13 million people from their homes, according to international and UN estimates.
