Türkiye’s BIST Rises at Weekly Open as Markets Start Strong
(MENAFN) Türkiye’s benchmark BIST 100 index started the new trading week on a positive note Monday, gaining 0.84% as investors returned to the market following the previous week’s final session.
The index opened at 12,373.11 points, marking an increase of 102.93 points from Friday’s closing level. The stronger opening placed the BIST 100 above the 12,300-point threshold as trading activity resumed.
The positive start followed a modest gain recorded in the previous session. On Friday, the BIST 100 advanced 0.17%, ending the day at 12,270.18 points.
Trading activity remained significant during Friday’s session, with total transaction volume reaching 124.8 billion Turkish liras, equivalent to approximately $2.54 billion. The figure reflected continued activity across the Turkish equity market as investors assessed domestic and international market conditions.
Currency markets were also monitored closely at the start of Monday’s trading session. At 9:50 a.m. local time, the Turkish lira was trading at 49.1620 against the US dollar.
The lira stood at 55.0100 against the euro, while the British pound was quoted at 64.9990 Turkish liras. The currency levels provided an additional indicator for investors evaluating the broader financial environment alongside movements in Turkish equities.
Commodity markets were also in focus. The price of an ounce of gold stood at $4,151.05, maintaining its position as a closely watched asset for investors amid continued attention to global financial and economic conditions.
Meanwhile, Brent crude futures were trading at $101.54 per barrel. Oil prices remained an important market indicator, particularly for economies and companies exposed to changes in energy costs and international commodity markets.
The combination of equity, currency and commodity movements offered investors several indicators to monitor as the new trading week got underway. The BIST 100’s opening gain marked a stronger start compared with its previous session, while the Turkish lira, gold and Brent crude provided additional market reference points.
Investors are expected to continue monitoring movements in Türkiye’s main stock index alongside developments in currency and commodity markets as trading progresses during the week.
