Unconventional Journey Through the Filming Industry Pranab Kr Nath's From Tripura, India

(MENAFN- BPG Group) North East India—— Every filmmaking journey begins with a frame. For some, it begins inside a professional studio surrounded by cameras, lights and large production teams. For Pranab Kr Nath, the journey has been shaped by a different landsc—pe—one rooted in Tripura, independent creativity and the determination to transform ideas into stories.
From Sabroom in southern Tripura, Nath has gradually developed a creative identity that moves between acting, directing, producing, music and digital storytelling. His journey through the filmmaking industry is not simply a sequence of film credits. It is a story about an artist discovering different ways to communicate with an audience while building projects from a regional base.
Pranab Kr Nath’s entry into filmmaking was closely connected with his interest in performance and visual storytelling. Acting introduced him to the world in front of the camera, while filmmaking opened anoth—r door—the opportunity to decide what the camera should see. Over time, these two sides of his creative personality began to work together.
That combination has become one of the defining features of his career.
Rather than remaining within a single creative role, Nath has explored several responsibilities behind and in front of the camera. His work has included acting, directing and production, giving him an understanding of filmmaking as a collaborative process rather than a one-person performance.
His early film projects became part of an emerging independent film culture in Tripura. Birju Ka Neela Pani, released in 2021, was followed by projects including Sei Kalodin and Shiksha O Tripura in 2022. These productions contributed to his growing involvement in regional filmmaking and reflected his interest in using cinema to explore different subjects.
Shiksha O Tripura, in particular, focuses on the modern education system in Tripura. The project demonstrates how regional filmmaking can bring familiar social issues into a visual narrative and create space for conversations about contemporary life.
For Nath, the location itself has also played an important role. Sabroom is not simply a geographical reference in his story; it represents the environment from which many of his creative ambitions developed. Working from a smaller city can present challenges, including limited access to large production facilities, professional networks and financial resources. Yet independent filmmakers often turn those limitations into opportunities for experimentation.
The camera, in this context, becomes more than a piece of equipment. It becomes a way of documenting people, places and emotions that might otherwise remain outside the mainstream entertainment landscape.
On’ of Nath’s notable projects is the Bengali short film Sesh Belay Tumi, released in 2024. The film brought together several aspects of his creative work. Nath directed the project and shared writing responsibilities with Nisha Deb. He also served as producer, with Pranoy Roy as executive producer. The cast included Nath, Nisha Deb, Pranoy Roy and Sonali Nama.
Filmed in Sabroom, Sesh Belay Tumi explores drama and romance through a short-format narrative. The production involved a collaborative creative team, including cinematographer Viraj Shil, composer Tapas Dhar and arranger Karjon Roy.
The project illustrates an important element of independent cinema: a filmmaker frequently has to move between creative and production responsibilities. Directing a scene is only one part of the process. Developing a concept, coordinating performers, working with cinematography and music, and eventually presenting the finished work to audiences all become interconnected parts of the journey.
Pranab Kr Nath’s creative path has also moved beyond conventional short films. His involvement in music videos has allowed him to combine cinema, music and performance. Sure Amar Matri Vasha is one such audiovisual project, bringing together singers, performers, writers and production contributors around the theme of language and cultural expression. Nath has been associated with the project as producer, director and label.
This expansion into different formats reflects a broader change taking place across the entertainment industry. The modern independent filmmaker is no longer necessarily defined by one job title. A creator can direct a film in one project, act in another, produce a music video, host a podcast and publish a bo—k—all while using digital platforms to reach audiences.
Pranab Kr Nath’s podcasting work has become another extension of this creative journey. Through Kathay Kathay Jibon Podcast, he explores subjects such as dreams, relationships, emotional struggles, memories and everyday experiences. Episodes including Swapno Dekhar Sahosh, Bhalo Thakar Obhinoy, Ekdin Shobkichu Bodle Jabe and Kichu Opekkhar Kono Shesh Nei demonstrate his interest in storytelling that focuses on personal emotions and questions of ordinary life.
Writing and publishing have added another dimension. His book Dreaming Reality In The World Of Lenses connects with his fascination with visual storytelling and the world behind the camera. His other writing projects similarly explore entertainment, creativity and the human stories surrounding artistic careers.
Taken together, these activities reveal a career that has developed across several connected creative fields. Film, music, podcasting, writing and digital content are not separate destinations i’ Nath’s journey; they function as different windows through which he approaches storytelling.
His story also reflects the changing geography of Indian independent entertainment. Creativity is no longer limited to Mumbai, Kolkata, Delhi or other major production centres. Digital cameras, editing technology, streaming platforms and social media have allowed creators from smaller cities and states to produce and distribute work on their own terms.
For Pranab Kr Nath, the filmmaking journey continues to evolve. There is no single frame that completely defines his career. Instead, there are man— frames—an actor standing before the camera, a director watching a scene unfold, a producer bringing a project together, a musician shaping an audiovisual idea and a digital creator speaking directly to an audience.
Perhaps that is what makes his journey distinctive. It is not only about reaching the destination of becoming a filmmaker. It is about continuing to create, experiment and tell stories from the place where the journey began.
And for Nath, that place remains closely connected to Tripura—a region that has provided both the backdrop and the starting point for a continuing cinematic story.
