China Marks National Day with Nationwide Celebrations
(MENAFN) China celebrated the anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China on Thursday, with nationwide events and flag-raising ceremonies marking the country’s National Day.
Oct. 1 is observed every year as China’s National Day, commemorating the establishment of the People’s Republic of China in 1949. The occasion is marked by public ceremonies, decorations and gatherings across the country.
Large numbers of people attended flag-raising ceremonies in different parts of China as communities gathered to mark the national occasion. Public spaces were decorated for the celebrations, with national flags displayed in cities and other locations.
The main flag-raising ceremony was held at Tian'anmen Square in central Beijing, one of the country’s most prominent sites for national events. A large flower basket was placed in the square, adding to the festive atmosphere surrounding the ceremony.
The celebrations come as China begins its annual National Day holiday period, with the country observing a weeklong break from Oct. 1 to Oct. 7.
During the holiday, large numbers of people are expected to travel across the country, visit tourist destinations and take part in local activities as the nation observes the anniversary.
