Report: 10 Nations Join Netanyahu-UAE Talks on Defense
(MENAFN) Officials from 10 countries attended an expanded meeting in Abu Dhabi between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, an Israeli channel reported Tuesday.
Citing an unnamed Emirati source, the broadcaster said the talks unfolded in two stages. The first was a one-on-one session between Netanyahu and Sheikh Mohamed. The second brought in delegates from the United States, Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Egypt, Kuwait, Bahrain, Libya and Oman, alongside Israel and the UAE.
None of the countries named had commented on the report by the time of publication.
According to the source, the agenda centered on deepening security and intelligence cooperation between Israel and the UAE and building a regional defense framework to counter “shared threats.”
The channel said participants also weighed steps on Iran and Yemen's Houthi group, intelligence and security support for Saudi Arabia, and the prospect of a new regional alliance. The broadcaster added that talks touched on an oil transport route that would bypass the Strait of Hormuz.
The visit itself has been publicly confirmed. UAE's official news agency reported Monday that Sheikh Mohamed received Netanyahu in the country on Sunday, and that the two leaders discussed bilateral relations and ways to strengthen them.
Netanyahu's office later confirmed that he and his wife traveled to the UAE on Sunday, saying the talks addressed stronger bilateral ties and regional challenges. It said he was joined by National Security Council chief Shmuel Ben Ezra, Mossad chief Roman Gofman, Military Secretary Guy Markizano and political adviser Ophir Falk.
