Sabotage Blamed for Syria Gas Pipeline Fire, Power Supply Hit
(MENAFN) A fire blamed on sabotage tore through a gas pipeline in eastern Syria on Monday, cutting off supplies from the Jbessa plant to power stations, an official news agency reported.
The blaze erupted on a pipeline running between Al-Shoula and Deir ez-Zor, the news agency said.
Hisham al-Saleh, a gas sector official at the Syrian Petroleum Company, said the fire halted the flow of gas from the Jbessa plant to electricity generation stations.
Firefighting crews sealed off the damaged section of the pipeline and kept working to put out the flames as gas pressure in the area fell, he said.
Earlier on Monday, local sources told media that Syrian civil defense teams had been sent to the site near Al-Shoula to contain the fire.
