Pakistan Urges US to Include Regional View in Afghanistan Review
(MENAFN) Pakistan’s army chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, on Monday urged the United States to consider a regional perspective and Pakistan’s “experience” when evaluating the current situation in Afghanistan.
Munir made the remarks during a meeting with a delegation from the US Afghanistan War Commission, led by co-chairs Shamila N. Chaudhary and Colin F. Jackson, at the army headquarters in Rawalpindi, according to reports.
During the meeting, Munir presented Pakistan’s assessment of the security conditions that influenced the conflict and outlined the challenges Pakistan faced throughout the prolonged war in neighboring Afghanistan.
Munir “underscored the importance of incorporating the regional perspective and Pakistan’s experience in assessing the strategic, diplomatic and operational dimensions of the conflict,” according to a statement.
The US delegation is conducting a review of Washington’s two-decade involvement in Afghanistan.
The final US-led foreign forces withdrew from Afghanistan in August 2021 after 20 years of war, as the Afghan Taliban returned to power in Kabul.
