Israeli Forces Detain Syrian Man During Quneitra Incursion
(MENAFN) Israeli forces detained a young Syrian man Tuesday during a military incursion into the northern countryside of Quneitra in southwestern Syria, according to reports.
Israeli troops reportedly entered the village of Al-Hurriyah, where they raided the area and took the man into custody. No information was immediately available about his identity or the circumstances surrounding his detention.
In another operation, an Israeli military patrol reportedly moved toward the village of Zubaida in the Quneitra countryside while students were on their way to school.
The presence of the patrol reportedly caused concern among students and residents in the area.
No immediate statement was issued by the Israeli military regarding the reported operations.
The latest developments followed another series of Israeli activities in southern Syria. A day earlier, Israeli forces reportedly searched several homes in Maariya village in western Daraa and established a checkpoint along the Ain al-Nouriya–Khan Arnaba road in Quneitra.
The incidents come amid continued reports of Israeli military activity inside Syrian territory.
Speaking before the 81st session of the UN General Assembly last week, Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa said Israel had carried out about 500 airstrikes and artillery attacks, more than 1,200 incursions and approximately 300 arrests and detentions since late 2024.
Sharaa rejected efforts to establish a new reality on the ground and reaffirmed Syria’s commitment to the 1974 Separation of Forces Agreement. He also called for Israeli troops to withdraw to the positions they occupied before Dec. 8, 2024.
