Militants Ambush Traffic Police in Northwestern Pakistan
(MENAFN) Militants killed at least three traffic police officers in an ambush in northwestern Pakistan on Monday, according to the Interior Ministry.
The attack took place in Tank district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, an area that has experienced a renewed surge in militant violence in recent months.
Two civilians passing through the area were also wounded in the gunfire and were transported to a hospital for treatment.
No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.
Militants linked to the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan have repeatedly targeted security personnel in the province, which shares a border with Afghanistan.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa registered 54 terrorist attacks last month, marking a 50% rise from July, according to monthly figures compiled by the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies, an Islamabad-based think tank.
