Germany Calls on Israel to Facilitate Humanitarian Aid to Gaza
(MENAFN) Germany on Monday urged Israel to facilitate the flow of humanitarian assistance into Gaza, stressing the need to address the enclave’s continuing humanitarian crisis.
“Our call and our appeal is to ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid, which, incidentally, is an obligation of an occupying power,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Josef Hinterseher told reporters in Berlin.
Hinterseher said the humanitarian situation had shown some limited improvement but remained insufficient, particularly as efforts to implement the Gaza Plan have yet to address major issues such as rebuilding the territory.
“It remains true that, in general, the humanitarian situation in Gaza has improved slightly, but -- as has been the case with the implementation of the Gaza Plan -- we have not yet reached the stages that address important issues such as reconstruction,” he added.
He also called on Israel to begin using German military cargo scanners stationed at the Eretz crossing. The equipment is intended to help facilitate the entry of dual-use materials required for housing reconstruction before the winter season.
“We expect these scanners to be used so that dual-use goods can be utilized for reconstruction and humanitarian aid,” Hinterseher said.
A UN Satellite Centre assessment found that more than 201,000 buildings across Gaza had been damaged by June 16, 2026, representing 82% of all structures in the enclave.
