China Calls US Dialogue Key to Advancing Artificial Intelligence
(MENAFN) China said Monday that continued discussions with the US represent an “important pathway” toward ensuring artificial intelligence serves people globally, following an agreement to create a formal channel for bilateral talks on the technology.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said Beijing is prepared to continue engaging with Washington on AI, responding to a question during a news conference.
“This is an important pathway for global AI for good and for all,” he said.
Guo also said China supports assigning the UN a central role in developing “a fairer and more equitable global AI governance system.”
The US and China agreed to create the US-China Super Intelligence (SI) Dialogue during a meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump at the White House last week, according to the US administration.
The inaugural round of discussions is expected to take place in November.
“We are ready to maintain exchanges with the US through the artificial intelligence intergovernmental dialogue,” Guo said.
He said the dialogue forms part of efforts to develop a “constructive China-US relationship of strategic stability” founded on “respect, fairness and reciprocity.”
