Iraqi Airways Restarts Najaf-Iran Flights After Sanctions Halt
(MENAFN) Iraqi Airways resumed flights between Najaf International Airport and Iranian airports on Monday, reversing a suspension that followed fresh US sanctions on Iran's aviation sector, an Iraqi news agency reported.
A state-run Iraqi news agency credited Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi with securing the restart, attributing it to his "intensive efforts."
Hours earlier, Iraq's ambassador to Iran, Yasser Abdul Zahra Al-Hajjaj, announced that Najaf International Airport would again receive Iranian flights, the news agency said.
The suspension was not limited to Iraq. Azerbaijan, Georgia, Oman and the United Arab Emirates had also halted flights to and from Iran after Washington imposed the new sanctions.
