Iraq Confirms Coalition Forces Conduct No Domestic Missions
(MENAFN) Iraqi Air Force Commander Khalid al-Tamimi said Monday that international coalition forces have conducted no operations inside Iraq since the start of 2026, emphasizing that the country’s air force is now carrying out its missions “independently.”
“No force from the coalition has carried out any duty inside Iraqi territory from the beginning of 2026 until now,” Tamimi said in an interview with the Iraqi News Agency, shortly before the coalition’s Iraq mission is due to conclude on Sept. 30.
“All missions currently carried out by the Air Force are independent of coalition forces, and there is no direct support from them,” he added.
Tamimi said Iraq is developing a comprehensive network of workshops, facilities and storage sites to strengthen its air force capabilities. He also said the country’s F-16 fighter jets are now maintained “100% by Iraqi personnel.”
However, certain stages of engine maintenance still have to be sent to Pratt & Whitney, a US aerospace company, while Iraqi technicians carry out other repair procedures within the country, he explained.
The Iraqi commander also said talks over purchasing Rafale fighter jets are progressing. “the first batch under negotiation is for 14 aircraft,” he said, without disclosing the identity of the party involved in the negotiations.
