Yemeni Forces Strike Houthi Positions as Fighting Intensifies
(MENAFN) Yemeni government troops launched attacks against Houthi positions west of Taiz on Monday, amid mounting clashes across the conflict-ridden country.
The Taiz Military Axis media center reported that airstrikes hit Houthi reinforcements in the Al-Marzam area of Al-Rubaie district, targeting several military assets, including a tank.
According to the military command, the tank caught fire following the strike, although no information was released regarding potential casualties.
The Houthis have not issued any statement addressing the attack.
Meanwhile, in Lahij province, the government-backed Southern Giants Brigades announced that their forces destroyed a vehicle transporting a Houthi commander and several accompanying fighters along the Kahboub front, near the Bab el-Mandeb Strait in the Red Sea.
The brigades released video footage purportedly showing the vehicle being hit and destroyed as it traveled along a roadway. However, they did not disclose whether anyone inside was killed or injured.
The latest developments follow announcements by Yemeni government forces on Sunday that they had conducted attacks against Houthi positions and gatherings across Taiz, Lahij and Al-Dhalea provinces in southwestern Yemen.
Separately, a major explosion was reported in the capital, Sanaa, around midday Monday, according to local media reports.
The circumstances surrounding the blast remain unclear, with no immediate information available regarding its cause or whether it caused casualties or property damage.
