Pezeshkian Says Iran Remains Open to Talks, Rejects Pressure
(MENAFN) Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said Wednesday that Tehran continues to support dialogue and negotiations but will not accept what he called the “language of force” or engage in talks while facing threats.
Speaking at the 81st session of the UN General Assembly in New York, Pezeshkian said Iran is willing to negotiate as long as discussions are not driven by pressure or intimidation.
“We will never bow our head,” he said, stressing that Tehran is ready to hold negotiations provided they do not come with threats.
Pezeshkian also criticized what he described as a double standard over Israel’s nuclear capabilities, noting that Israel has nuclear weapons and is not a signatory to the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty, “but the inspectors are requested to come to Iran.”
“They (Israelis) kill, we are sanctioned, we are punished,” he added.
“Israel has murdered savagely over 70,000 innocents in Gaza, but Iran, while behind the table of negotiation, was bombed.”
The Iranian president again maintained that Tehran is not seeking to develop nuclear weapons. At the same time, he said Iran has an “inherent” right to access nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.
