Russian Mi-8 Helicopter Makes Brief Airspace Incursion Over Poland
(MENAFN) A Russian Mi-8 military helicopter briefly crossed into Polish airspace from Russia’s Kaliningrad exclave on Wednesday, according to reports.
Poland’s Operational Command of the Armed Forces said the helicopter remained inside Polish airspace for 42 seconds and traveled approximately 300 meters beyond the border.
"Fighter aircraft were scrambled, and ground-based forces and assets remained on standby," it added.
"The nature of the incident indicates that Russia is once again testing the readiness of our air defense," the command said.
The incident took place shortly after 11 a.m. local time (0900GMT) near Braniewo in northern Poland, close to the border with Kaliningrad.
