Netherlands Returns to Eurovision After Withdrawal
(MENAFN) The Netherlands is set to take part in the 2027 Eurovision Song Contest after previously stepping away from the competition, according to reports.
The decision follows the withdrawal of Dutch public broadcaster AVROTROS in August. The broadcaster said at the time that it could no longer maintain sufficient neutrality amid continuing geopolitical tensions.
AVROTROS also argued that measures introduced by the European Broadcasting Union, which organizes Eurovision, did not adequately address its concerns.
The broadcaster later transferred responsibility for the Netherlands’ participation back to the Dutch public broadcasting organization NPO, leaving the country’s involvement in the next contest uncertain.
The Netherlands skipped the 2026 Eurovision competition for the first time in 24 years, citing Israel’s participation and the repercussions of the war in Gaza.
Spain, Ireland, Iceland and Slovenia also withdrew from the contest, while Dutch public broadcaster NOS continued airing the event.
