Norwegian Broadcaster Raises Concerns Over Israel in Eurovision
(MENAFN) Norway’s public broadcaster NRK has sent a letter to the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) expressing concerns about Israel’s participation in this year’s Eurovision Song Contest and the way competition rules are applied.
NRK entertainment editor Jostein Olseng confirmed the letter on Wednesday, saying such correspondence is sent after each final to offer feedback on possible improvements to the contest.
“We send letters after each final to provide feedback on how the competition can be improved,” Olseng said, adding that the editorial team had expressed “clear concerns” regarding Israel’s participation.
He said NRK was particularly examining whether Eurovision’s voting system accurately reflects viewers’ musical preferences or whether national and geopolitical factors could influence the results.
"We have come to suspect that the voting does not reflect which songs are the best, but rather which nation we support," he said.
Olseng emphasized that NRK believes the contest’s rules should be enforced consistently across all participating countries.
