Eclore Protective Bellows Adopted For Stäubli SCARA Robots

The result of a two-year partnership, this innovation was presented for the first time at Interpack earlier this year in Düsseldorf, Germany, addressing the strict hygiene requirements of the food processing industry and other controlled environments.

A response to industrial hygiene challenges

In the food processing industry, mechanical equipment operates under strict conditions, facing strict hygiene standards and exposure to harsh chemical agents.

Stäubli, a leader in industrial robotics, was looking to optimize the protection of its TS2 SCARA robot range to ensure durability and flawless hygiene.

Eclore addressed this challenge with its unique expertise in polymer folding. Made from high-performance copolymer, these bellows offer enhanced durability (up to at least 10 million cycles) and chemical resistance to aggressive cleaning agents.

This bellow provides optimal mechanical protection compatible with FDA standards, guaranteeing outstanding resistance to dust, splashes, and high-pressure washdowns in food processing environments.

A collaboration based on tailor-made engineering

The collaboration between the two companies was built on close co-development between the research and development teams at both Stäubli and Eclore.

This joint effort made it possible to define a fully integrated solution:

Tailored origami design: a unique concept specifically created to meet the strict requirements and standards of the food processing industry. Complete technical customization: precise adaptation of dimensions, stroke, diameter, and mounting interfaces to guarantee seamless integration into the robot's structure. Custom color: a specific shade developed to meet operational needs and facilitate debris detection through visual or camera inspection.

The prototypes underwent rigorous strength and fatigue testing within Stäubli's laboratories. Once validated, they were deployed under real-world conditions on active production lines.

Now available as a standard option, this solution enhances the reliability of Stäubli equipment in critical environments, extending machine lifespan while securing production. By delivering superior resistance over time and through cleaning procedures, it drastically reduces technical downtime.
