Kwaśniewski: Problem Of“Murdered Brothers And Sisters” In Ukraine-Russia Relations Will Last For Generations

(MENAFN- UkrinForm) The former Polish leader expressed this view in an interview with Ukrinform.

The war may end, but the level of hatred, pain, tragedy and suffering it has caused will not disappear quickly, he said.

“Even if some wonderful leaders come to power in Russia, the reconciliation process will still take many, many years, because something like this is not easily forgiven,” the Polish politician emphasized.

Kwaśniewski believes that Putin is making a fundamental mistake by calling Ukrainians“brothers and sisters,” as these words contradict Russia's actions.

“And from the Ukrainian side comes the question: if we are your brothers and sisters, why are you killing us? Why are you taking our children and Russifying them? Why are you setting fire to and attacking our cities and villages? Why are you forcing us to freeze to death by shelling power plants?” Kwaśniewski said.

According to him, such rhetoric is unacceptable to Ukrainians because it does not correspond to the reality of the war.

“If we are brothers and sisters, you have no right to treat us this way. You may love us more or less, but you cannot treat us this way. And this problem of 'murdered brothers and sisters' will last for generations. You cannot resolve it with one, two or three gestures. This will remain a difficult issue in Ukrainian-Russian relations for a long time,” the former Polish leader said.

As previously reported by Ukrinform, Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said that Moscow sees no conditions for resuming dialogue on ending the war with Ukraine.

U.S. President Donald Trump said in his address to the UN General Assembly that the United States hopes to achieve peace between Ukraine and Russia.“This will happen sooner than expected,” he said.
