Türkiye Advances Next-Generation Nuclear Technology Assessment
(MENAFN) Türkiye has taken a new step toward evaluating advanced nuclear technologies after Türkiye Nuclear Energy Inc. (TUNAS) and the US Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) signed a grant agreement covering small modular reactors (SMRs) and fourth-generation reactor technologies.
The agreement was signed during a ceremony at Türkevi in New York, according to Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar.
Bayraktar said the partnership will allow Türkiye to conduct a broad assessment of the technical, economic and regulatory feasibility of next-generation nuclear systems.
"In line with our goals of Net Zero Emissions by 2053 and full energy independence, we are committed to diversifying our energy mix," he said.
The minister also emphasized that Türkiye intends to pursue multiple nuclear options alongside its planned large-scale power plants as it works to strengthen and modernize its energy infrastructure.
"In addition to our large-scale nuclear power plants, we will continue with determination to build a robust and modern energy infrastructure by meticulously exploring the alternatives best suited to our country's needs," he said.
