RSF Attack Targets Gold Market in Sudan’s North Kordofan
(MENAFN) Five civilians were killed and 27 others wounded in an attack on a gold market in Sudan’s North Kordofan state, according to a Sudanese civil society group, which blamed the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) for the incident.
“Five citizens, including a goldsmith, were killed and 27 others injured in an attack by the RSF militia on the market” in Umm Badr, the Dar Hamar Emergency Committee said in a brief statement.
The group also reported that the RSF had set up a position for its military vehicles in an area located between the Umm Badr mining market and the Umm Badr Al-Hilla district.
The committee separately said earlier Monday that RSF forces had looted the gold market as well as shops throughout Umm Badr.
The RSF had not issued an immediate response to the allegations made by the civil society group.
The latest developments followed advances by the Sudanese army in parts of North and West Kordofan that remain under RSF control.
In a separate statement earlier Monday, the Sudanese Emergency Lawyers Committee said significant numbers of residents were leaving Jabra Al-Sheikh in North Kordofan amid RSF military deployments and operations in and around the town.
On Saturday, Sudanese army forces captured the strategically important Al-Jamama area northeast of Sodari in North Kordofan after clashes with the RSF.
