Zelenskyy Sets Terms to Halt Strikes on Russian Energy Sites
(MENAFN) Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy laid out Kyiv's conditions Monday for ending Ukrainian strikes on Russia's energy infrastructure, tying any pause to reciprocal restraint from Moscow.
In a post on the US social media platform X, Zelenskyy said Ukraine stands ready to stop hitting Russian energy facilities if Moscow, in turn, halts attacks on Ukraine's energy sector, critical infrastructure and food exports.
"Ukraine's energy sector, critical infrastructure and our food exports must stop being targets for Russia, and this will lead to matching de-escalation steps on our part," he said.
Zelenskyy added that Kyiv is prepared to raise the matter with the US and other partners on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York.
He said Ukraine remains in active dialogue with US President Donald Trump and his administration, with proposals already on the table aimed at moving the two sides closer to peace.
"Solutions are possible. We are ready to work on this, and we will discuss it with our partners on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York," he said.
The remarks follow a Sept. 20 phone call in which Trump repeatedly pressed the issue of Ukrainian strikes on Russian oil refineries, according to a source cited by media.
Zelenskyy and Trump have agreed to meet in New York during the UN General Assembly, with Zelenskyy saying the sit-down could carry significant weight for diplomatic efforts to end the war.
