Gaza Hospital Reduces Care Amid Fuel, Maintenance Shortages
(MENAFN) Al-Wafa Hospital for Medical Rehabilitation and Specialized Surgery in the Gaza Strip announced Monday that it has scaled back several medical services as an operational crisis worsens due to shortages of fuel and essential maintenance materials amid the ongoing Israeli blockade.
The facility is now the second hospital in Gaza to report service reductions within two days because of insufficient fuel. The announcement follows a similar decision made Sunday by the nongovernmental Kuwait Specialized Hospital.
The latest disruption comes as Gaza continues to face the consequences of Israel’s war since Oct. 8, 2023, alongside a tightened blockade that has severely affected infrastructure and placed further pressure on the territory’s healthcare system.
In a statement, Al-Wafa Hospital said it had temporarily halted a number of essential services. These include outpatient clinics, surgical procedures, outpatient physical and occupational therapy, speech therapy, and care for swallowing disorders.
“The suspension of these services comes amid an operational and humanitarian crisis that has reached an extremely dangerous stage,” the hospital said.
The hospital also reported critical shortages of diesel and other fuels required to run power generators and vehicles. It added that obtaining oils, tires, spare parts, and other maintenance materials has become increasingly difficult, threatening the continued operation of vehicles, medical equipment, and other essential services.
