Erdogan Is Set to Address UN General Assembly on Gaza, Palestine
(MENAFN) Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is scheduled to deliver an address Tuesday during the high-level General Debate of the 81st United Nations General Assembly session.
Leaders from UN member states are taking turns speaking before the General Assembly, presenting their governments’ priorities and views on major international issues to an audience of representatives from around the world.
Brazil has traditionally opened the General Debate since the 10th session of the General Assembly in 1955, with exceptions in 1983 and 1984. The United States, as the host country, follows Brazil in the speaking order.
Erdogan is scheduled to be the fourth speaker on the opening day, following Jordan.
The Turkish president’s upcoming address will mark his 16th appearance before the General Assembly.
His speech is expected to focus heavily on Israel’s actions in the Gaza Strip, along with calls for the international community to recognize Palestine as a state and consider possible measures concerning Israel.
During his stay in New York, Erdogan is also expected to conduct a series of bilateral meetings with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and several heads of state and government.
His schedule is further expected to include engagements with representatives of Turkish communities in the United States, members of the Turkish-American business community and officials from various think tanks.
