South Africa President Falls Ill After BRICS Summit
HYDERABAD, Sept 17 (NNN) -- South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has withdrawn from public engagements after falling ill upon his return from the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi.
“President Ramaphosa, who returned from the BRICS Summit in India on Monday, has been advised by his medical team to rest and recover,” his office said in a post on the social media platform X on Wednesday.
It said the president is“currently booked off from public engagements.”
Ramaphosa, 73, arrived in New Delhi on Sept 11 and left the Indian capital on Sunday evening.
South Africa's Deputy President Paul Mashatile, 64, is also resting after undergoing a medical procedure.
His recovery is progressing well, and he is“regaining strength each day,” according to a post on his X page on Tuesday.
“On the advice of my doctors, I will continue resting until advised otherwise while work and delegated responsibilities continue to be underway in the capable team in my office, with other stakeholders in government, business and other sectors,” Mashatile said.
