Türkiye Home Sales Slide 14.7 Percent in August
(MENAFN) Türkiye recorded 127,410 home sales in August, a 14.7% drop from the same month a year earlier, according to official data released Thursday by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat).
New home sales fell 4.5% year-on-year to 44,378 units, making up 34.8% of total transactions for the month.
Among Turkish provinces, Istanbul led the way with 20,426 house sales, followed by the capital Ankara with 10,851 and the western province of Izmir with 6,532.
Sales of existing homes saw a steeper decline, dropping 19.4% to 83,032 and accounting for 65.2% of the total.
Bucking the overall downward trend, mortgage-financed home sales rose 7.2% year-on-year to 22,131, representing 17.4% of all transactions. Sales financed through other means fell 18.3% to 105,279.
On a seasonally and calendar-adjusted basis, new home sales rose 3.5% from July, while existing home sales edged up 0.7% over the same period.
For the January-August period, total home sales fell 6.8% year-on-year to 950,529. Mortgage-financed sales surged 27.6% to 188,813 over the eight months, even as other sales dropped 12.7% to 761,716.
Foreign buyers, meanwhile, purchased slightly more homes in August than a year earlier, with sales to non-residents up 0.1% to 1,938 — just 1.5% of the month's total.
Russian citizens topped the list of foreign buyers with 343 purchases, followed by Ukrainian nationals with 147 and Iranian buyers with 140.
