Airstrike Hits Houthi Reinforcements in Western Taiz, Yemen
(MENAFN) An airstrike struck Houthi reinforcements in western Taiz province in southwestern Yemen on Thursday, a senior Yemeni Information Ministry official said.
Fayyad Alnoman, assistant undersecretary at Yemen's Information Ministry for television affairs, said on the U.S. social media platform X that local sources reported the strike hit Houthi reinforcements at the Al-Dharifah junction in Al-Wazi'iyah district, west of Taiz.
In an earlier post preceding the update, Alnoman cited field sources reporting clashes between government forces and Houthi fighters on the Al-Anin and Bilad al-Wafi fronts in Jabal Habashi district, also west of Taiz.
The Houthi group has not yet responded to the report.
Western Taiz has seen escalating fighting in recent weeks. On Wednesday, Yemeni government forces said they struck Houthi positions, barracks and personnel along the Al-Kadha front, with additional airstrikes hitting Houthi positions and gatherings elsewhere west of the city.
Clashes between Yemeni government forces and the Houthis have intensified since early July, ending a stretch of relative calm that had largely held since a UN-brokered truce took effect in April 2022.
Yemen has been mired in conflict since the Houthis seized the capital Sanaa and several provinces in September 2014, a takeover that prompted a Saudi-led Arab coalition to intervene in March 2015 in support of the internationally recognized government.
