Barcelona Rout Racing Santander 7-2, Make History With 7-0 Start
(MENAFN) Barcelona put on a goal-scoring clinic Wednesday, demolishing Racing Santander 7-2 to claim their seventh straight win to open the season — a first in the club's history.
Joao Cancelo got things rolling in the eighth minute, rifling in a spectacular strike from distance. Raphinha doubled the advantage from the penalty spot in the 25th minute.
Racing Santander clawed one back through Maguette Gueye five minutes later, but Cancelo restored the two-goal cushion in the 36th minute when another long-range effort deflected off Asier Villalibre and was ruled an own goal.
Raphinha struck again just before the break, netting his second of the night in the 42nd minute to send Barcelona into halftime up 4-1. Both of his first-half goals came from the spot.
Barcelona were handed a second penalty shortly before the interval, but Lamine Yamal couldn't convert.
Yassir Zabiri narrowed the gap to 4-2 in the 65th minute, only for Barcelona to answer immediately — Raphinha buried another penalty a minute later to push the lead back to three.
Gabriel Jesus padded the advantage in the 79th minute, and Yamal made up for his earlier miss by capping the scoring in the 89th.
The rout pushed Barcelona's season tally to 33 goals across seven matches — an average of nearly five per game — and cemented the club's first-ever seven-win start to a campaign.
