US House Ends Week Early as Hegseth Impeachment Vote Nears
(MENAFN) The US House of Representatives is ending its legislative work for the week on Wednesday and will not hold votes Thursday, in a sudden change to the chamber’s previously announced schedule.
Majority Whip Tom Emmer informed lawmakers that the House is expected to consider a resolution seeking congressional disapproval of an Environmental Protection Agency rule related to California’s pollution-control requirements for nonroad engines used by commercial harbor craft.
According to the notice sent to lawmakers, the House is expected to hold its final votes of the week at about 4.45 p.m. Wednesday.
The shortened schedule is expected to allow lawmakers to leave Washington after Wednesday’s voting session. The House is not scheduled to return until Nov. 9, following the Nov. 3 midterm elections.
The change comes a day after Republican Rep. Thomas Massie introduced articles of impeachment against Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and attempted to trigger a House vote on the measure.
The impeachment resolution alleges that Hegseth violated restrictions established by Congress governing the use of military force through US operations in Iran. It also cites alleged misconduct connected to other military activities and the use of authority by the Pentagon.
