Trump Signs Order to Strip Canadian Goods From US Federal Buying
(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump signed a presidential memorandum Wednesday directing officials to identify and begin removing Canadian-origin goods from federal civilian government procurement, according to a fact sheet released by the White House.
The memorandum instructs the director of the Office of Management and Budget and the US Trade Representative, working alongside the Federal Acquisition Regulatory Council, to pinpoint Canadian-made products that could be excluded from federal civilian purchasing or otherwise classified as unavailable for procurement.
It further directs the US Trade Representative to track how Canada treats US-origin goods within its own government procurement markets.
The White House said Canada has maintained policies that put American companies at a disadvantage when seeking access to federal and provincial procurement markets.
