OpenAI Targets Trillion-Dollar Valuation Through New Funding
(MENAFN) OpenAI is reportedly exploring a fresh investment round that could raise its valuation above $1.2 trillion, as the ChatGPT developer seeks additional capital following the release of its latest advanced artificial intelligence model.
The company has reportedly entered early discussions with potential investors about the proposed financing. OpenAI was valued at $852 billion in March after raising $122 billion from major backers, including Amazon, Nvidia and SoftBank.
The potential fundraising effort could take place before the company launches its initial public offering, which is reportedly anticipated next year.
OpenAI continues to compete with Anthropic for a leading position in the artificial intelligence sector, while facing growing pressure from more affordable Chinese open-weight AI models.
Since its last funding round, the company has said its active user base has exceeded one billion. More than 200 million businesses are also reported to be using its AI models.
Meanwhile, OpenAI's AI-based coding assistant, Codex, has recorded substantial expansion. The company has also recently unveiled Astra, describing it as the world's most intelligent and aligned model.
Financially, OpenAI generated $6.7 billion in revenue during the second quarter, covering the three months through June. This marked an increase from the $5.7 billion recorded in the first quarter. Despite the revenue growth, its operating margin weakened, delaying expectations that the company could reach profitability before its planned IPO.
