Agriculture Minister, Lebanese Counterpart Discuss Boosting Agricultural Trade, Cooperation


(MENAFN- Jordan Times) AMMAN - Agriculture Minister Saeb Khreisat and his Lebanese counterpart Nizar Hani on Wednesday discussed ways to strengthen agricultural cooperation and expand agricultural trade between Jordan and Lebanon.

The two ministers stressed the importance of closer coordination in the agricultural sector and making use of the comparative advantages of both countries to facilitate access for Jordanian and Lebanese agricultural products to regional markets, Al Mamlaka TV reported.

They also discussed exchanging technical expertise and experience in agricultural production and marketing, as well as facilitating the movement of agricultural products between the two countries.

The meeting covered cooperation in developing agricultural value chains, improving product quality and enhancing the competitiveness of agricultural products in local and international markets.

The ministers stressed the importance of supporting agricultural producers and expanding access to regional and international markets through stronger coordination between relevant authorities in both countries, serving farmers, producers and exporters and supporting sustainable agricultural development.

They also discussed opportunities to build on Jordan and Lebanon's positions as agricultural trade hubs in the region, strengthen export cooperation and identify new markets for agricultural products.

The two sides also addressed the export of Jordanian agricultural products to the Lebanese market in line with required quality, technical and phytosanitary standards, with the aim of supporting agricultural trade between the two countries.

The meeting was held on the sidelines of Jordan's hosting of the Levant Agricultural Exports Conference, which brings together stakeholders to discuss challenges and opportunities related to agricultural exports, regional cooperation and access to international markets, as well as to exchange expertise in production and marketing.

The meeting was attended by Ministry Secretary General Mohammad Hayari, Lebanese Agriculture Ministry Secretary General Louis Lahoud and Lebanese Ambassador to Jordan Brigitte Touq.
